With children having increased decision-making power in many households, these young consumers already have a significant say in the foods they consume daily, creating ample opportunity for them to explore foods and flavors their parents may not have normally thought to purchase for their age range. From hot peppers to super sour candy, Gen Alpha kids are up to try just about anything, which was not a common attribute of generations before them at their age.
Social Media Influence
When it comes to their cravings for all things new and different, not only are Gen Alphas influenced by their parents, but they are also influenced by social media. Gen Alpha consumers are truly technology natives. Growing up in a time where smartphones and social media are the norm, these young consumers are joining social media far earlier than any other generation, and in turn, learning about foods and flavors popular outside of their own households.
Their early involvement in social media opens up a whole new world of discovery where they are exposed to a wider range of food trends that may pique their interest. Social media platforms like TikTok have, and will continue to, heavily influence consumer decision-making. From healthy alternatives to classic comfort foods to out-of-the-box flavor combinations, Gen Alphas are clear on what they are interested in seeing on retail shelves and food service menus.
