The Breakout Beverage Trends of 2025

The beverage category is booming with new trends and innovations! Although most product categories have witnessed rapid shifts in trends in recent years, quickly adapting to meet consumers’ evolving preferences, the beverage category, in particular, has seen quite a bit of change in a short amount of time. Consumers appear to be tapping into the power of beverages in supporting their overall wellness, allowing several new trends to take hold – and paving the way for exciting product launches and innovations in the coming months.

Which beverage trends will generate buzz in 2025? Keep reading for our experts’ insights on the top beverage trends on the horizon – and how brands can innovate to get ahead of the curve.

Make Time for Tea

Innovative takes on tea will be all the rage in the months to come. Consumers are gravitating towards tea for a variety of reasons. First of all, many consumers are starting to limit their caffeine intake to promote better sleep, meaning that they’re turning to tea as an alternative to coffee and soda. Tea is also in-demand for its perceived health benefits and functional properties. Tea pairs well with a number of other functional ingredients, including spices, like turmeric and ginger. As consumers continue to seek out beverages with functional properties, they’ll be turning to tea products with added ingredients that claim to help address specific health and wellness issues.

Boba, or bubble tea, has seen a surge of popularity as consumers around the world have been embracing Asian inspired foods and beverages. Boba has become incredibly beloved by Millennial and Gen Z consumers, putting milk teas back in the spotlight. In 2025, plant-based milk teas are perfectly poised to trend in 2025, given that these consumers are also turning towards oat, almond, and cashew-based milks as sustainable alternatives to dairy milk.

The global trend is as prolific as ever. In addition to boba, expect to see consumers branching out to try other global inspired teas – and especially those from Asia – in the months to come. Brands should focus their innovative efforts on introducing global inspired tea products that will appeal to trend-conscious consumers.

Focus on Function

2024 brought probiotic sodas, the “sleepy girl” mocktail, and a surge in demand for antioxidant-rich matcha. What will 2025 bring in terms of functional beverages? More sleep-enhancing products, for one. Consumers have become increasingly concerned with ensuring that they get adequate – and high-quality – sleep, recognizing its importance for supporting both mental and physical health. Expect to see more sleep-related claims on beverage products, as well as claims that boast relaxation and calming properties.

Probiotics will still be trendy in 2025, as gut health continues to be among the top concerns for consumers who purchase functional products. Although probiotic sodas will continue to be popular in the coming months, “soda” still has a negative connotation. As such, yogurt-based beverages and kombucha are poised to see a resurgence as consumers look for beverages that claim to support the gut microbiome.

Say Hello to Hydration

In recent years, health and wellness influencers have zeroed in on the importance of staying well-hydrated as a means of enhancing one’s physical and mental health, boosting one’s energy, and, more recently, improving one’s appearance through glowy skin. From colorful, collectable water bottles to sparkling sports drinks, the hydration hype has taken on many forms and shaped several beverage trends.

Beverages that emphasize their hydrating properties are going to win big with consumers going into 2025. Products that feature electrolytes, in particular, are going to be in-demand with consumers who are looking for solutions to support their hydration and energy levels. On a similar note, Celtic salt has been picking up steam as an additive to water, as consumers perceive it to aid in hydration.

Despite the hydration craze, consumers are less than enthused about drinking large quantities of plain water. Products that infuse plain water with flavors that make regular water more exciting and palatable will be all the rage with hydration-obsessed consumers. Brands can get ahead of the curve by innovating with trending flavors and ingredients to create infused waters that consumers won’t be able to get enough of.
