New and Exciting Flavors for Eggs

Eggs have been a big topic of conversation in the recent months, but they are trending for reasons other than just their rising prices. Consumers are adding untraditional ingredients to deviled and hard-boiled eggs and creating their own spin on the already popular snack or appetizer dish. We are all familiar with the classic deviled egg recipe featuring mayo, mustard, a little horseradish, salt, and pepper, but according to consumers it’s time to change it up.

Once springtime rolls around every year, there’s usually an increase in egg-based side dishes. Not only are chickens starting to lay on a more regular basis again, but a quiche in the morning or a classic deviled egg side dish at holiday gatherings and events is a must. Eggs are probably one of the most common ingredients you’ll find in the kitchen and in recipes, but as we’ve seen before, consumers are finding ways to add a twist to this staple ingredient.

Eggs have always been a popular breakfast or quick snack, especially when they’re hard boiled; just add a little salt and pepper and voila – you’ve got a quick and tasty way to sustain you until your next meal. From adding a simple seasoning or sauce to creating a full flavor profile that mimics a favorite dish, consumers are changing up the way they prepare their eggs, and we are loving seeing what they come up with.

What’s Up with Eggs?

It’s no secret that prices are what’s up with eggs, but despite the rising cost, consumers are still buying them. Some people have even decided to start raising chickens to cut the overall cost, but many are just biting the bullet and paying the price. It’s almost as difficult to get chicks now as it is to get decently priced eggs. You simply can’t deny that consumers love their eggs, and many are doing whatever it takes to keep eggs as a regular item in their diet.

So why are consumers so adamant about not giving up their eggs? First, they are a great source of protein and have a myriad of health benefits.  Second, eggs are incredibly versatile. Just as a side dish alone you can make them scrambled, sunny side up, hard boiled, poached, and more. In addition, there are so many ways to flavor them. Some of the most popular ways to season eggs include using cheese, herbs, or hot sauce.

Their use as a side dish or a quick snack isn’t where the possibilities stop for eggs, though; they can also be used as a topping on a hamburger, breakfast sandwich, or wrap. One of the most recent fads involves grating a hardboiled egg on top of avocado toast, creating a fun and tasty topping with a unique texture. However, consumers are doing more than just changing up how they cook or consume their eggs, they’re finding brand new, out-of-the-box flavors to give these egg-based dishes.

Flavoring Eggs in Today’s Day and Age

Getting inspired by the ingredients and flavors features in favorite dishes and trending cuisines is becoming a common occurrence for consumers when it comes to preparing eggs. Some of their ideas include flavors like a Caesar salad style deviled egg, a swicy (sweet and spicy) egg, and a Mediterranean style egg. These are just the beginnings of the exciting flavors that could be added to the ever-popular dish. It is obvious that consumers are desperate for flavors that are both new and exciting to add into their everyday diets. Boring and bland foods are out. As consumers ourselves, we can all agree that we like to be excited about what’s on the menu, while enjoying the process of making it. It’s time to really listen to what our consumers are asking for, and maybe that’s a mainstream ingredient or item that they want to see altered to fit their current preferred flavor profile in a way that creates a level of excitement.

The best part about this current trend is that there isn’t a “one size fits all” rule. You can use or create these flavors to cater toward your targeted demographic’s specific preferences. These adventurous eaters are simply interested in trying new things, so don’t be afraid to really go outside the box and explore flavors from cuisines all over the world or those that wouldn’t necessarily be obvious choices. We believe that there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to flavoring this staple ingredient, just waiting to be discovered.

Essentially, when it comes to eggs, its time to start innovating to keep up with consumers ever-evolving preferences.
