Sichuan Beef Hot Pot: Inspiration & Recipe

East Asian cuisine is among the most popular ethnic cuisines in the United States, and its continuing popularity inspired us to develop our newest seasoning collection, The East Asian Creations Collection. As we were working on this collection, we teamed up with the culinary and marketing team from Fuchs China to get inspiration and recipe ideas. Among the items they suggested was a Sichuan Beef Hot Pot Base, which is one of the four featured seasonings in the recipe.

When our marketing analyst at Fuchs China noted that Spicy Hot Pots was a “favorite” among the entire team, we had to know more. Thankfully, Chef Eros Tang, Fuchs China’s Executive R&D Chef, was on hand to break it down for us. A hot pot, he explained, starts with a simmering broth base and has other elements – like proteins, dumplings, and vegetables – added to it and cooked directly at the table in restaurants in China. It is very flavorful, and not surprisingly, has long been popular in China. It’s so popular, according to Chef Eros, that even fast-food restaurants are getting in on the action. “KFC launched the Hot Spicy Hot Pot. People in China are all talking about it. So, you can imagine how popular this cooking is in China,” he explains.

According to Chef Eros, this kind of convenient hot pot is called String String, which he says is just as flavorful as a Sichuan Hot Pot. Not only are hot pots ever popular in China, but they’ve also been trending in the United States. According to Howard Cantor, our Corporate Executive Chef at FNA, “Hot pots have been trending in foodservice lately, as consumers love their customizability. Not only is our hot pot base spicy and savory, but it is incredibly versatile – add just about any protein or vegetable to it, and you’ve got a mouthwatering meal.”

Our team at Fuchs China was so passionate about the Sichuan Hot Pot that they provided us with insights to ensure that we were developing an authentic, flavorful base for this collection. Request a sample here.
